Jim Gunn, Founder
“Gunner” (as he’s known in the oil patch) earned a commerce degree from the University of Calgary in 1972 and worked for nine years in the insurance business. He next worked for a land service firm where he broadened his right-of-way expertise, before starting MSL Land Services in 1983. One of his more significant achievements is the coordination and completion of a major 60-mile pipeline, amid time and budget constraints, for BP Canada Energy Company. To keep current and connected in his field, Gunner is an active member (and past president
of the Calgary chapter) of the International Right-of-Way Association (IRWA) and the Alberta Association of Surface Land Agents (AASLA). He was also a Councilor for the Town of Chestermere for six years.
Rob Gunn, President
Rob became a member of the MSL team in February 2004, obtaining his permanent land agent license in January 2005. Before that, he gained valuable oil and gas knowledge for seven years as a survey crew chief. As such, Rob provides insight into the selection of surface lease locations and ROW route selection, but also has experience in Utility ROW acquisitions. He is responsible for the coordination and
counseling of our team, as well as developing and maintaining excellent communications with our clients. Rob is an active member of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Landmen (CAPL), Canadian Association of Petroleum Land Administration (CAPLA) and the International Right-of-Way Association (IRWA).
Jim Williams, Senior Land Agent
“Willie” joined MSL in 1989, bringing with him eight years in the oil and gas department of a major Canadian bank, as well as contract analysis experience with a major oil and gas company. Willie keeps current with various business administration and contract law courses and has gained varied land experience in both Alberta and Saskatchewan. Since
1990, he has been working closely with Amoco on Pipeline Corrosion inspection, a preventive maintenance program that saves money and prevents environmental damage. Willie is a member of the International Right-Of-Way Association (IRWA) and the Alberta Association of
Surface Land Agents (AASLA). Willie has made a move to Kelowna where he heads up MSL’s field office.
